Absences

If your student will not be at school, please call 317-259-8850 (ext. 17555) before school starts and leave a detailed message about your student’s absence.

If your child is out of school for a medical appointment, you must provide the office with a doctor’s note for the absence to be excused.

If your child will not be in school for an extended period of time, you must complete a Prearranged Absence Form.

Transportation

Spring Mill’s arrival and dismissal procedures have been streamlined to focus on safety and security for 500+ students, staff and visitors. Please remember to drive your vehicle slowly inside our campus and avoid texting. Safety is our collective responsibility.

Morning drop off begins at 7:20 AM and afternoon pick up begins at 2:25 PM.

HOW DO I REPORT A CHANGE IN DISMISSAL PLANS FOR MY CHILD?
Parents should send a written note to the teacher on any day that a student’s dismissal plan changes. A message through ParentSquare won’t get to the teacher if a substitute is present. In the event of a last minute, emergency situation please call the school by 1:30 PM to communicate the change of plans.

Parent Visits to Classrooms

Parents are always welcome and encouraged to visit their child’s classroom. All visitors must check with the office staff before going to the classroom and always wear a name tag indicating that they have signed-in. Parents are encouraged to call teachers in advance to ensure that visiting a particular classroom will not interfere with testing or other special situations. Parents who wish to speak with their child’s teacher must schedule an appointment. 

Parent Volunteers

Spring Mill encourages the participation of parent volunteers in many aspects of the functioning of our school. Volunteers assist teachers with clerical tasks, tutor small groups of children under the direction of the teacher, listen to children read, support students with class projects, help as room parents, act as chaperones on field trips and support the school with many other activities. All volunteers must sign-in, always wear an ID label, and follow procedures set up by the school. A Limited Criminal History background check is mandatory. It may take up to two weeks for a background check to clear. Volunteers must complete required paperwork at least two-weeks before an activity/event to give us adequate time to process the background check. Before & After School Care

AYS (At Your School) provides after-school care for a fee at Spring Mill before and after the regular school day. For more information, please contact their office directly at (317) 283-3817 or go to their website.

What are “Specials”?

Spring Mill students participate in art, music, physical education, library, and technology classes on a daily rotating specials calendar.

Recess

Each grade level has 30 minutes of recess during the school day. Kindergartners have two recess breaks. All students go outside every day unless the windchill is below 10 degrees Fahrenheit, or a doctor’s note is provided. All students are expected to dress appropriately with hats, gloves, and boots in cold weather.

Testing

Testing happens in every grade for all students to demonstrate comprehension and mastery. To have a better understanding of what types of testing are happening for your child, in what grade(s) and at what time(s) of year, please reference the district’s annual testing calendar here.

ParentSquare

Every guardian should have access to ParentSquare, as this is the main form of communication from your student’s teachers, as well as from our school and district administrators. Check daily for important updates and messages. If you need to create an account, you can do so here. If you need your child’s ID information, please contact the Spring Mill office.
